Drunk driving suspected in hit-and-run car accident

Most drivers in Kentucky take measures to ensure their safety as well as the safety of their passengers and others in the vicinity. However, safe drivers are often unable to avoid the actions of others, such as those who unexpectedly cross into oncoming lanes of traffic. Unfortunately, a man and woman were recently injured in a car accident allegedly caused by a driver who was under the influence of alcohol.

The events leading to the couple’s injuries reportedly began during the afternoon hours of a day in mid-December. Police say that a male driver reportedly struck a vehicle from behind, causing the vehicle to leave the road; the first driver is said to have left the scene. Reports indicate that officers received reports of another accident soon after, when the man was unable to negotiate a curve, resulting in a collision with a van.

The couple in the van were reportedly trapped inside. One witness claimed that the male driver of the first vehicle fled the scene, but she was able to provide a description; he was taken into custody and now faces multiple criminal charges. Both people in the van were transported to the hospital for treatment with one of them suffering injuries, though the exact nature of the injuries was not detailed.

The charges against the driver who Kentucky police say caused the car accident include operating a vehicle under the influence. While a conviction of the charges against the man may provide a sense of justice for the victims, they may face significant financial concerns as a result of hospital bills and lost wages. As such, they may choose to file a personal injury lawsuit against the driver.
